0repliesPINNEDAbout these starter threadsShort version: the threads that were here before you arrived were written by us, and they now say so.
When BestLight opened there was nobody to talk to yet, so we wrote about twenty threads in-house to give the boards a shape — what to ask in Gear, what belongs in Locations, how much detail is useful in Techniques. For a while those posts carried invented names, which made a handful of staff notes look like a busy community. That was wrong, and it has been undone: every one of them is now posted by @bestlight, and the likes and ratings those accounts had given each other are gone.
The posts themselves stay, because the answers in them are real — access rules, timings and access notes we checked. Treat them as house notes, not as neighbours telling you what they found.
Everything from here is yours. If a thread has a name on it that is not @bestlight, a person wrote it.@bestlight1mo ago3repliesFirst camera, no idea where to start in SingaporeBought a used body and a kit lens last month and have taken maybe forty photos, all of them bad. I do not really know what I am doing wrong, only that the results look nothing like what is on this site.
Is there a sensible first spot for someone who has never shot anything properly? I keep going to Marina Bay at random times and getting nothing.@bestlight1mo ago3repliesHow do I read the "How busy" graph on the spot pages? There is a bar chart on the spot pages now with one bar highlighted in gold. I think the gold one is the best light time but I am not certain, and I do not know whether the percentages mean the place is full or just busier than usual.@bestlight1mo ago4repliesIs it rude to photograph people at hawker centres? The food spots on here are all hawker centres and the photos that make me want to go are the ones with people in them — uncles at tables, stall aunties working. But I feel deeply uncomfortable pointing a camera at strangers eating lunch and I do not know if that instinct is correct or just nerves.@bestlight2mo ago2repliesWhat does "facing 305° NW" mean on the spot pages?Sorry if this is obvious. The spot pages have a compass and a number like "305° NW — CBD skyline over Marina Reservoir" and I do not know what I am supposed to do with it. Is that the direction I walk, or the direction I point the camera?@bestlight2mo ago
